Helping people in India

Earlier in 2024 I visited the West Bengal and Jharkhand regions of North East India. This was a long held dream to visit India, but I didn't want to just see the country - instead I wanted to utilise my skills to help people in the local communities there. Starting in Kolkata word quickly spread and family member after family member came to see me. But it was in a small village near Ranchi that word seemed to go viral.

We'd managed to organise a cricket game for the afternoon, but on my return to the family home I was staying at there was a lounge full of people waiting to be seen. It wasn't until after midnight that everyone had been seen on that occasion!

Overall it was an amazing experience and particularly enjoyable because I could use my skills to help those people in communities who had no access to this kind of help.

And a huge thank you to the families who provided accommodation and such excellent translation services!

Back to Life Clinic is a Best Customer Care Finalist

In the 2023 Newark Business Awards Back To Life Clinic was nominated for providing the Best Customer Care to patients. This was against every type of business in Newark and Sherwood - so Ian was delighted to be recognised as one of the best in the area.

Speaking on the night Ian said, "Providing excellent customer care is the bedrock for Back To Life Clinic, so I'm delighted that the same patients that we have helped have gone out of their way to nominate the clinic for this award. The fact that the judges have then selected Back To Life Clinic from the many businesses in the area is a great recognition of the passion and care that we provide for every single person who seeks our help".

As part of the awards night each company was filmed before the awards. Above, you can see the BTLC video shown on the night.

It is thanks to the wonderful support I have received that Back To Life Clinic has been such a success. This includes all my friends and family, the Newark business community and especially all my lovely patients who have written reviews and recommended the clinic to others. ‘Charities of the Year’ receive donations as a result of recommendations

Shawmind and Beaumond House receive donations

In March 2020 the second 'Charity of the Year' campaign started with Beamond House Hospice Care continuing to be supported. They were joined by local mental health charity, Shawmind. Due to the pandemic the 'year' has been extended to ensure both charities are supported as well as we possibly can.

Since launching Back To Life Clinic I have committed to: Donate £5 to the Charities of the Year for every new patient who attends because they have received a recommendation from a client.

I am very pleased to say that in September 2021 we donated a total of £185 to these two excellent local charities. This was due to the kind word-of-mouth recommendations from our clients. So THANK YOU on behalf of the charities for recommending Back To Life Clinic.

Covid-19 safety procedures post “Freedom Day”

Following the Government plan on July 19th to ease restrictions (so called "Freedom Day") I thought it best to confirm what Covid-19 safety procedures the clinic will be operating following this date.

The very simple answer is that for us nothing will change post "Freedom Day". Because we are a registered healthcare provider we need to maintain the pre-Freedom Day safety levels. Here at Back To Life Clinic we plan to keep on going above and beyond these requirements, as we have to-date, to maximise the safety for all of our clients. These particularly include:

  • Face masks for all clients and practitioners
  • Ongoing high-levels of cleaning and ventilating between every client

Here's a quick summary of what you can expect to help keep you safe post Freedom Day:

Covid-19 Safety procedure summary

We are hopeful that these systems and procedures will provide a safe and friendly environment for you to get back to living and enjoying life again, but if you do have any questions or concerns then please do feel free to contact Ian on 01636 362022.

You can find further detail on our dedicated Covid-19 Safety Procedures page.

Charity of the Year Update

The first Back To Life Clinic charity of the year initiative supported two amazing local Newark charities – Beaumond House Hospice Care and the Children’s Bereavement Centre. Here are a few highlights of the support BTLC has been able to provide:

Events and donations

One activity that has relied on the fantastic support of the many wonderful BTLC clients has been the £5 donation for every new patient that came from a recommendation. I am pleased to say that 36 new patients were recommended to come to the clinic. Through the year we’ve also participated in the Beaumond House Ball and their Be Bright Blue event – donating 50% of new patient treatment fees that day to Beaumond House. We’ve also supported the charities’ own events through donating top fundraiser prizes to help incentivise others to raise more! These activities helped us donate over £400.

The most enjoyable event during the year though, was the first annual Newark Dragon Boat race which supported both Beaumond House and Children’s Bereavement Centre. You needed a team of at least 12 to take part so BTLC joined several other local companies from the Newark Business Club to form ‘The Winning Team!’. Unfortunately, we didn’t win the race, but we did live up to our name by winning the highest team fundraising prize. Together our businesses raised over £2,700. Ian even helped raise extra money by providing massages during the day for dragon boaters and spectators!

Free desk assessments and treatments for staff

The year of support started with providing free corporate desk setup assessments for the team at Beaumond House. It was great to see the change in the team’s health and wellbeing after adjusting their desks and chairs to ensure they were better positioned. The staff were also taken through some exercises to help keep them pain free at work. At the same time several members of the nursing and fundraising teams who needed more support were given free treatments.

Chief Executive Debbie Abrams said “Ian has generously donated his time and talents to staff at Beaumond House Community Hospice these last few weeks. We are all much healthier thanks to his expertise. We are very grateful. Thank you Ian.”.

Throughout the year this gift-in-kind donation amounted to £3,500.

Our first ‘Charities of the Year’

I am really proud to say that this support for our two chosen charities totalled over £4,000 in direct donations and gifts-in-kind from BTLC plus the Dragon Boat team total of over £2,700. I would like to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has helped support these activities throughout the year, we’ve certainly enjoyed helping such great charities.

What this support could help the charities to provide

childrens-bereavement-centre

For Newark’s Children’s Bereavement Centre:

  • £6 would supply a grieving child with a comfort bear
  • £10 would pay for a child to attend an activity/workshop
  • £25 could pay for a support session for a child
  • £200 would pay for 8 play therapy sessions for a child

For Beaumond House Hospice Care:

  • £5 would pay for afternoon tea and cake for a patient, plus a memory box to put their treasured items in
£8.70 would pay for one hour of bereavement support
£15 would pay for a day-therapy patient to have a lovely cooked lunch, nutritious snacks, teas and coffee during their day
  • £36 would cover the cost of a Health Care Assistant to plan, coordinate and run the day-hospice activities
  • £400 would pay for 24 hours of inpatient care

Our 2020-21 ‘Charities of the Year’

With the need for mental health support growing throughout the current pandemic, our chosen charities for 2020-21 are ShawMind (a local mental health charity) and Beaumond House Hospice Care once again.

You can help us to raise more for these amazing charities by recommending Back To Life Clinic to new potential patients. We will then donate £5 after their first appointment.

We look forward to more opportunities to help raise awareness of, and funds for, these two great charities throughout 2020-21.

THANK YOU
